Our next seller is also located in Kenya as well!

Although an English born, there is still something very African to Harriet Stanes's illustrations, most probably due to it's subjects, haha. I have to admit, some of the scenes in his(her) paintings I sometimes also see in Malaysia too, especially in the more rural areas like where my grandparents live. The lively, comedic and simplistic style of Harriet's paintings is something that you can easily fall in love with. I mean, how can you not smile while looking at his(her) illustrations? (and the subjects)

The Hall Family Portrait

A christian family living in the UK. He enjoys making big stews for church gatherings, playing the guitar but is not so keen on the family dog. She loves flowers, autumn, walking the dog and baking. The eldest daughter is a practising teenager, experimenting with make-up, hair straightening, clothing... The son is into his gadget making and loves cake.  There is a bit of sibling rivalry between him and the elder sister, hence the lump of cake headed in her direction. The youngest daughter is an animal lover, plays badminton but is not so keen on school so is kicking her exercise books off the edge of the bible.

Michael dabbles in rally driving, represented by the bouncing tyre. The suitcase represents the couples love of travelling. The wedding took place on the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, with a view across to Mt Kenya. The purple flowers of the jacaranda tree, became a theme and featured in all of their wedding stationery.

Illustrating an article which writes about how hard it is to find out what your children have done at school that day as when asked, the reply comes back as 'nothing'.  You have to look for clues elsewhere. If their shirt is on back to front, they have taken a gym class and he has been doing 'making' when he comes home with a 3 foot robot under his arm.

Hippo's and Sushi? Slightly tricky theme but after a bit of brainwracking I'm really pleased with the resulting illustration!
